I started to turn away as I passed the SureFire booth where the salesman was demonstrating a self-igniting Mapp gas-brazing torch (nothing new there). Then I noticed him put the tip of his finger on the operating torch tip. I stopped to see if he had an artificial hand, or at least to see if I could render first aid. It turns out that he was demonstrating the company''s new Cool Burning tip. Yes, impressive!I''ve always been curious about ultrasonic leak detectors, especially when using them to locate refrigerant leaks. The Amprobe people had a new twist to demonstrate at the show. Their Model TMULD-300 has a parabolic reflector that mounts around the microphone tip. This, they say, accomplishes three objectives: It makes the pickup several times more sensitive; it takes the pickup more directional; and it reduces wind noise.

The company raised $5.5 million through the sale of 73,333 shares of a newly designated Series B Preferred Stock via a private placement with a major investor. The transaction closed on Oct. 9, 2000. Historically, these machines have been referred to as "go karts" for lack of a better name. Today, the industry has a variety of small, gas engine-driven, low-to-the-ground vehicles, so more descriptive names are used based on the karts'' intended applications. Amusement and arcade parks rent the more heavily constructed karts for fun seekers to operate on a confined track. Then there are the paved-track racers that are commercially and/or association operated, where the drivers bring their high-speed, low-to-the-ground machines to the track. And finally, there is the OPE fun kart industry that supplies karts for unstructured recreation in wide-open triadhydraulicpowerunit spaces; these are the karts that I will be covering in the series.
