The newest additions to Honda''s GC engines series are the 6-hp., horizontal-shaft GC190 (pictured) and 6.5-hp., vertical-shaft GCV190 models. These higher hp. engines are designed specifically for premium, high-volume, residential power equipment and are now available through Honda Engine distributors nationwide. Both shaft configurations also are supplied to other power equipment manufacturers on an original equipment basis. As with other overhead cam (OHC) engines in the GC series, a combination of the world''s first internal timing belt and uniblock construction creates a lighter and more compact package than any other model in the class, delivering an unparalleled power-to-weight ratio. Simple construction also minimizes the number of moving parts, making the engines reliable and easy to operate. The internal components have been strengthened through the use of a stronger piston pin, larger connecting rod, larger rod journal and redesigned oil control ring. The GC190 and GCV190 engines meet or exceed all 2006 CARB and EPA emission requirements. After successfully launching its vertical-shaft, liquid-cooled Aegis engines at EXPO 99, Kohler introduced horizontal-shaft counterparts at EXPO 2000. Kobler will produce 3 models rated at 17-, 20-, and 23-hp. with full production on the 23-hp. model starting in spring 2001. With the addition of Kohler Aegis in both vertical- and horizontal-shaft configurations, Kohler can now provide OEMs and end users with a full range of 4-stroke, twin-cylinder engines from 17 to 26 hp. Honda Engines has added two new higher horsepower models to its GC series of four-stroke gasoline engines. The 6 hp GC19O and the hydraulicacpowerunits vertical shaft 6.5 hp GC Vi 90 engines are designed specifically for premium residential power equipment applications. The two new engines join Honda Engine''s 4 hp GC135/GCV135 and the 5 hp GC160/GCV160 engines in the product range.

The second manner in which the modularity of the 3T system sped our development is that the architecture allows the independent development and testing of groups of ALS subsystems and a subsequent incremental integration of these subsystems (figure 8). This aspect of the control development became important for the WRS team in dealing with the startup time of the BWP. The microbes in the BWP take one to two months to form viable colonies to process feed water. This inoculation period meant that bringing the other subsystems into test would be delayed by at least one to two months, and even longer if the inoculations became problematic.

I have now begun building a traveling commons--an eight-foot round redwood table atop four wheels and a car engine. I, and whoever else ends up joining me, will drive the table around the world. Talking, cooking, writing, sculpting, playing billiards ... the table escapes narrow definition of purpose.It will be a drama in which many people, with all their stories and concerns, thoughts and passions, will be the actors, the landscapes, the backdrops. It will be a community based on what people have to give--and there is everything to give. Some may offer food, wine, and a place to park; others, content and inspiration. The traveling commons is the stone in stone soup, the sand in the oyster. It is a magic carpet that flies--not above people, but through and within them. There will be a library, dictionary, typewriters, cameras, easels, and elegant china stored in compartments below deck. We will stop at universities, parks, capitals, housing developments, and sometimes even red lights--the traveling hydraulicacpowerunits commons transcends class and country. We might stay in a place for weeks, or just a couple of minutes. As we gain recognition, and take on the momentum (wobble?) of a pottery wheel, we will sometimes write ahead, inviting artists, writers, and thinkers for a meal and a chat. Over the engine, using the heat of combustion, we will bake bread and make coffee. We may also have a zucchini or two growing in a well in the center of the table.
